From July 17 to September 6, 2026, the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts (HfBK) hosts its annual Rundgang, opening its doors across multiple venues to showcase the year's defining contemporary student works.
Yeji Kim’s "Rest in Peace"
As part of Professor Helen Verhoeven's class group exhibition, Yeji Kim presents her latest painting, Rest in Peace. Transitioning toward a visibly more classical composition with subtler surreal elements than her previous works, the piece anchors itself in a deeply philosophical exploration of death and the universal fear of dying.
At the center of the canvas lies a powerful figure: a naked woman looking straight at the observer. Though her hand covers her vagina, the gesture deliberately rejects shame or self-protection, projecting a raw, unapologetic presence instead. Surrounding her is a rich natural environment built from Kim's direct landscape studies of Saxon Switzerland (Sächsische Schweiz). Merging these regional natural textures with profound mythological themes, Kim creates a captivating tension between human vulnerability, the eternity of nature, and the subconscious mind.
