Yeji Kim’s Rest in Peace marks a shift toward a more classical composition with subtler surreal elements, while exploring death and the universal fear of dying.
At the center is a naked woman who looks directly at the viewer. Although she covers her vagina with one hand, the gesture rejects shame or self-protection, expressing a raw, unapologetic presence.
She is surrounded by a natural landscape based on Kim’s studies of Saxon Switzerland (Sächsische Schweiz). By combining these regional landscapes with mythological themes, the painting creates a tension between human vulnerability, the eternity of nature, and the subconscious mind.
This work has been part of the Rundgang 2026 Exhibition at the HfBK Dresden.

Yeji Kim (b. 1999, South Korea) is a contemporary painter exploring transformation and fluid mythologies. Studying in Paris after Dresden (HfBK), she bridges Korean and European perspectives to create layered, surreal paintings of hybrid figures.
